2000 customers @ $39/month is almost $1M/year. If your software can handle 2000 customers, you can worry about scalability once the $1M/year is flowing in. Scalability doesn’t get you cutomers. First have customers, then worry about scalability. The order matters.
I spent a while digging through the history of the @github repo page and made this timeline gif from 2008 to 2020 💁♀️ https://t.co/9sjL6UNQtW
We just launched an experimental new tutorial for setting up @Stripe. I personally think it's 🤯 but would love to hear thoughts from anyone currently integrating! https://t.co/bXr82FxXSk https://t.co/ohbkplgJIv
What is the best online course you have ever taken?
What's your favorite Charlie Munger quote?
Checklist for online writing: • Remove every unnecessary word • Focus on clarity, not cleverness • If a sentence bores your reader, delete it • Make your reader smarter • Treat every word like it’s on trial for its life • Write like you’re talking to a friend at a bar
🥳 It’s been a fun couple of days working with @steveschoger + @adamwathan getting familiar with the TailwindUI components. A little teaser of something I’m putting together. https://t.co/m7IYBEQeKI
My favourite criticism of @Superhuman. "Ah but high touch onboarding is not scalable". Really? Each rep can do 40 onboardings per week, dropping $14,400 in ARR. With 4 weeks holiday p.a that is $691,200. $691,200 x 150 reps = $103.6M ARR. I rest my case. Scalable.
A new online education revolution is happening. I've been taking dozens of online courses recently that are 10x better than what was possible in 2008 when we started @udemy. Educators, Influencers, Bootstrappers and Startups: A thread about the future: *Read On*
This tweet hasn't sat well with me. It could be discouraging and, frankly, comes off as condescending. Sorry. I'm a pro at struggling with pride and need to do better. What does a good cold email looks like? I decided to break down my now friend @david_perell's pitch from 2017.…
When buying a business, you want actual cash flows to tie to the reported financials of the company. If the actual flows of cash differ materially from the reported numbers, you'll want to dig in. One exercise to evaluate this uses a tool called a 'cash proof template'
One of the best resources for marketing: look at what the "scammy" marketers do. These people may or may not be unethical (selling shit products, lying). Some are, some aren't. But they're often categorized as scammy. And copy their tactics. But with legit, great products
1/ This excellent explainer about the economics of bundling by @nbaschez is also one of the key ideas needed to understand online education today https://t.co/j0qjnK9xcS Online courses are bundles, and understanding that helps unlock a lot of things
🧠 I think a lot about how we can offer the entire @eggheadio screencast catalog free to view while still paying meaningful royalties without ads. It's a member supported effort already, similar to public broadcasting (minus subsidies and corporate patronage lol hardMode++ 😲)
Make it easy to spin up product templates. Mini-sites w/ Loom video + description + ability to clone + SEO optimized. All the "blank canvas" SaaS cos (Retool, Airtable, Zapier) have these template libraries.
I had an epiphany today about how we could literally unlock the entire egghead catalog and still function as a profitable company 🤔
There aren’t many things that don’t scale when you charge money for them.
