1/ Charlie Munger's second tweetstorm, but this time for new business school graduates. "We get these questions a lot from the enterprising young. It’s a very intelligent question: You look at some old guy who’s rich and you ask, ‘How can I become like you, except faster?’"↗

I honestly don’t know if any 2 minutes of TV in my life has ever resonated more with me, or validated so much of what I believe in. Amazing...↗

MEGA THREAD TIME Here are 50 ideas that shape my worldview. These are my guiding principles and the light of my intellectual life. All of them will help you think better, and I hope they inspire curiosity.↗

Buying a business, especially a good one, is hard. But not impossible. And not without risks. Reducing those risks takes a good process, emotional control, discipline, savvy advisors, and relentless hard work. Though just about anyone can do it.↗

1/ Graduating seniors deserve a Charlie Munger Tweetstorm with appropriate life advice to mark the occasion. "I want you to learn as much as you can vicariously. It’s too painful to do it by personal hardship. “You don't have to pee on an electric fence to learn not to do it”↗

Last one on Buffett. Here's his answer in 2009 vs 2020 about whether or why to buy stocks. His answer is pretty similar. I don't know what stocks will do over the short run. But I buy when the price is right. Interesting to compare and contrast.↗

What’s a great biography I should read? Preference: - person needs to be on top of their game from 1880-1980s. Nothing modern - businessy type of person. Military or pop culture related is cool too - on audible - not more than 800 pages - haven’t read before↗

Let's do this. 1/ Buffett: "Most people come to our meeting to hear Charlie. At 96 he is in fine shape. It didn't seem like a good idea to have him come to this meeting. Charlie is in fine shape and he will be back next year." Charlie is now doing video streaming meetings.↗

I recently spent $1,000 on an online writing class. ✏️ Coughing up that sum of cash was not an easy choice. But I learned more in five weeks than I did in four years of college. Here are some of the key takeaways @levnaginsky and I came away with: …↗

I had an epiphany today about how we could literally unlock the entire egghead catalog and still function as a profitable company 🤔↗

·@joelhooks·Apr 30, 2020·essay·business-model·education·egghead

🧠 I think a lot about how we can offer the entire @eggheadio screencast catalog free to view while still paying meaningful royalties without ads. It's a member supported effort already, similar to public broadcasting (minus subsidies and corporate patronage lol hardMode++ 😲)↗

Make it easy to spin up product templates. Mini-sites w/ Loom video + description + ability to clone + SEO optimized. All the "blank canvas" SaaS cos (Retool, Airtable, Zapier) have these template libraries.↗

One of the best resources for marketing: look at what the "scammy" marketers do. These people may or may not be unethical (selling shit products, lying). Some are, some aren't. But they're often categorized as scammy. And copy their tactics. But with legit, great products↗

This tweet hasn't sat well with me. It could be discouraging and, frankly, comes off as condescending. Sorry. I'm a pro at struggling with pride and need to do better. What does a good cold email looks like? I decided to break down my now friend @david_perell's pitch from 2017..↗

When buying a business, you want actual cash flows to tie to the reported financials of the company. If the actual flows of cash differ materially from the reported numbers, you'll want to dig in. One exercise to evaluate this uses a tool called a 'cash proof template'↗
